NHG Institutions & Services About NHG Members National Skin Centre

National Skin Centre In 1988, the National Skin Centre (NSC) moved to its present premises in Mandalay Road where it operates as an outpatient specialist dermatological clinic with consultant dermatologists who have the experience and expertise to treat complex skin diseases in both their private and subsidised clinics.

As a tertiary health care institution, the NSC provides specialised dermatological services, trains medical students and postgraduates, and undertakes research in dermatology.

It aims to be the national and regional referral centre for treatment of complex skin diseases. It is already recognised as a dermatological training centre for local and foreign skin specialists and paramedical personnel with its active educational programmes for undergraduates, postgraduates, professionals and the public.

Milestones
New Services/Facilities/Programmes:

  • Mohs Micrographic Surgery for Skin Cancers Micrographic (Mohs’) surgery is a specialised form of surgery to remove certain skin cancers. The surgeon removes the visible portion of the tumour and then removes further tissue that may have cancer cells, one layer at a time.
  • Non-cultured cellular grafting is an innovative surgical technique that transplants an individual's own pigment cells onto his / her vitiligo patches, without the need of growing the cells in the laboratory. This transplantation technique can achieve good to excellent return of skin colour.
  • The Candela 755nm Alexandrite laser allows for effective treatment of Green and Black tattoos as well as benign pigmented lesions such as lentigines and freckles. In the Longpulsed (microsecond) mode, this Alexandrite laser allows for gentler treatment of PIHprone skin and gradual lightening of dark small benign moles with reduced risk of scarring.
