Our medical professionals are among the best in the world and skilled in many specialties and subspecialties. Many are involved in cutting-edge medical research as well.

Some of our recent milestones include:

2006: Asia’s first middle ear implantation

2006: Asia’s first hip resurfacing procedure

2005: Asia’s first bone marrow and kidney transplant

2005: Asia’s first NovaVision vision restoration therapy

2005: Asia’s first to offer 23-gauge vitrectomy surgery

2005: Asia’s first Delta Reversed Shoulder Replacement

Picture this.
A persistent gynaecologist from the National University Hospital wants a non-invasive way to test for foetal abnormalities. Existing methods carry risks of miscarriage. He experiments with testing the expectant mother’s blood, which carries foetal DNA, to ascertain the baby’s gender. It is a success. He is now developing tests to reach his real objective – non-invasive tests for foetal abnormalities.

Children all over the world come down with Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). But the tests for it are complex and available only in developed countries. Without accurate tests, doctors risk over treating low risk patients, or under treating high risk ones. A simple micro array-based analysis system test, developed by a team at NHG’s Children’s Medical Institute, returns results with 96 percent accuracy, enabling doctors to tailor treatment to their young patients.

These, and many more such examples of active, ongoing research in NHG institutions that translate into more effective treatment, enable NHG doctors to fulfil their pledge of adding years of healthy life to their patients.
