The Courage Fund will provide immediate cash relief to healthcare workers and non-healthcare workers who have contracted Sars.
HEALTHCARE WORKERS
The cash relief is a token of appreciation and recognition of the courage, dedication and selflessness of healthcare workers in fulfilling their duty, while risking their own health and lives.
Relief for Healthcare Workers
- One-time lump sum payment of $5,000 for any HCW worker who contracts Sars
- Should the Healthcare worker succumb to SARS and dies from the disease, the grant will be augmented to $30,000 in total. Other medical benefits due to HCW which have already been announced. This includes full waiver of hospitalisation costs and unrecorded hospitalisation or medical leave.
NON HEALTHCARE WORKERS
Relief for Non Healthcare Workers
- One-time lump sum of $3,000 to any person who has contracted SARS
- Should the SARS patient succumb to SARS and dies from the disease, the grant will be augmented to $10,000 in total. Relief will be distributed equitably to all patients under the guidelines outlined above, regardless of their financial and employment situation.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
The following persons shall qualify as beneficiaries for the disbursement of The Courage Fund:
(a) Singapore residing in Singapore
(b) Singapore Permanent Residents
(c) Holders of Employment Pass / Work Permit
(d) Holders of Student Pass
(e) Holders of Dependent Pass
(f) Holders of Long-Term Social Visit Pass (LT-SVP) who have resided in Singapore for a minimum of 1 year
There is no need to apply. Patients will be contacted directly by the Fund management committee through the contact information to be provided by Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the designated SARs hospital. Those eligible will simply be asked to fill in a form to provide their personal particulars to facilitate the disbursement of the fund.

FURTHER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Additionally, those who find themselves in need of further financial assistance because of unemployment or temporary health disabilities related to their SARs illness, may subsequently apply for further financial support from the Fund. This assistance will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
THE COURAGE FUND AS OF APRIL 24, 2003
The Courage Fund received another $159,242 today.
Members of the public sent in $64,247 and corporate donors sent in $94,995.
This brings the current total to $3,385,025.31. |
