1) The Courage Fund is pleased to announce that Miss Singapore-Universe 2003, Ms Bernice Wong, has agreed to be an ambassador for the Fund, along with our valiant doctors and nurses.
2) Ms Wong’s explains why she gladly agreed to be our ambassador.
3) “Extraordinary circumstances demand extraordinary measures. This is the first time that we, as a nation, have faced an epidemic of this proportion. It could not have occurred at a worse time in the current climate of economic slowdown and instability in the Middle East. We have all read about families who have lost dear ones to this disease. Our hearts go out to them. For others afflicted by this disease and those who have lost their income or even their jobs, we feel for you. Let us not forget the many frontline medical staff who were infected by SARS in the line of duty.
4) I wondered to myself on many occasions as to how we can help SARs victims. A friend of mine recently told me about The Courage Fund, a fund started by a group of volunteer doctors and nurses in aid of all SARS patients. I immediately agreed to be part of this effort in the hope that we could help alleviate their suffering in our own small way.
5) Initial support from the public has been nothing short of fantastic. Many public-spirited corporations have already come forward to pledge their support for this fund. I urge all Singaporeans to join us in this extraordinary effort. After all, these are extraordinary circumstances.” |
