On 21 May, nurses at Ren Ci Community Hospital attended their first 2-day Risk Management and Patient Safety Workshop as part of the IILTC Program organized by College's Institute of Intermediate and Long-Term Care (IILTC).
This is the first of a series of training courses under the IILTC Program. The training program was made possible thanks largely to funding from the NHG Endowment Fund. This is the first time the Endowment Fund is extending support to training for NHG IILTC partners, with the purpose of helping raise the quality of care to facilitate the integration of IILTC into one seamless healthcare system.
The Program was launched after careful planning and study by College staff, including visits to various sites, observing work processes, going through medical records and incident reports, and speaking with staff at different levels, etc.
The Risk Management and Patient Safety Workshop was conducted by Ms Joanna Teo and Ms Lim Siew Geok from College. We are encouraged by all the positive feedback and enthusiasm from Ren Ci participants.
"I have learned a lot from the course. Thank you very much!”"
"It was such a wonderful and interesting course for nurses."
"I have learned more than I expected."
"Truly satisfied.” “Excellent. Very well done!"
"Very interesting…case studies helped a lot… they were very lively and very informative"
"Before attending (the course), I had little idea. Now I understand clearly. I will practice day by day."
"I suggest this course to be conducted more frequently or on a regular basis, so that more of our colleagues can attend and gain knowledge to apply in ward setting."
According to the feedback, as shown in Fig. 1, there is a significant shift in participants' understanding / perception of the importance of Risk Management and Patient Safety before and after the course. Furthermore, as shown in Fig 2, after attending the course, over 80% of staff feel "confident" or "very confident" about “implementing risk management principles or strategies in practice”.
