Institute of Healthcare Quality (IHQ) – one of the institutes in NHG College extended our 2 programmes, namely Clinical Practice Improvement (CPI) Programme and Risk Management and Patient Safety (RMPS) Programme to 3 Nursing Universities in Thailand, namely The Thailand Red Cross College of Nursing, Payap University and Madidol University.
This project is a collaborative effort between Ngee Ann Polytechnic and NHG, funded by Temasek Foundation. The purpose of the training package is to help improve standards of professional nursing care in Thailand, particularly in the areas of risk management, clinical practice improvement work, and nursing teaching. This will support the improvement of health care standards in Thailand, hence benefiting the patients of Thailand.
Between March to May 2010, the NHG CPI and RMPS faculties conducted the trainings at the first two universities, The Thai Red Cross College of Nursing (Bangkok) and Payap University (Chiang Mai).
Despite the language differences, these programmes were well received by over 80 participants from the first two universities.
"Before attending the course, I thought improvement projects belonged to senior nurse or head of department who have responsibility to do this project. But now I know that everyone can start and do improvement projects - even for junior nurses."
~ Paniarepa Saard, The Thai Red Cross College of Nursing
"Learning by doing it’s the best because video and working in groups can help me understand quality improvement and patient safety"
~ Rapee Siangsanoh, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital
"All the topics are very interesting, very helpful and can put into a nursing curriculum. The clear lectures, using slides/videos, allowing ample time to discuss and group exercises all increase my understanding and awareness of Risk Management"
~ Dr Prathana Langkarpint, Dean, McCormick Faculty of Nursing, Payap University
"Every session in the programme helped me learn because I understood Risk Management in 4 days after learning."
~ Mrs Chailai Pangern, Lecturer, McCormick Faculty of Nursing
It was not only an enriching experience for our Thai partners but also for our Teaching Faculties. They are A/Prof Thomas Chee (TTSH), Dr Tai Hwei Yee (TTSH), Dr William Chan (TTSH), Dr Gervais Wan (TTSH) and Mr Bernard Wong (TTSH) from the CPI Faculty and supported by Ms Choo Wei Yee (NHG). The RMPS Faculty comprises of Ms Deborah Ee (TTSH), Mr Bavan s/o Perummal (NUH) and Ms Joanna Teo (NHG) and supported by Ms Clarissa Chan (NHG). The cross sharing of our practices indeed gave us a different perspective in how we deliver care to our patients.
