What This Programme is About
Certification of brain death is a complex and time consuming multi-step process with many potential pitfalls and confounders. It is also an important responsibility shouldered by clinicians working in intensive care units. Families and loved ones are often overwhelmed by having to deal with the suddenness of the devastating neurologic injury, understanding the concept of brain death and coming to terms with its consequences i.e. withdrawal of therapy or potential organ donation.
To help ICU clinicians deal with these complex issues when managing potentially brain dead patients in the ICU, the Department of Anaesthesiology, TTSH has put together this course which is the advanced version of the basic ‘Nuts and Bolts’ course, which is targeted at non-ICU doctors required to certify brain death in their respective hospitals.
