Writeup on Effective Team-work & Decision-making in Crisis Resource Management
The doctors and nurses worked together as a team to manage a crisis situation simulated by the SimMan (the manikin on the bed).
|
Decision-making in clinical emergencies is fraught with difficulties and potential pitfalls; many of which can have serious consequences on our patients. In addition to being called to make such decisions, junior doctors and nurses are often required to work together during these emergencies even though they usually undergo training as individuals.
The inaugural run which was held on 24 May 08, aims to provide a safe environment to reinforce the importance of effective teamwork among healthcare professionals during
clinical crises by using
the SimMan® simulator.
Excellent feedback was received from the doctors and nurses:
"This has been a well conducted course with clear objectives and generated active participation from all course participants. The medical simulation was well run and it was a
good experience for doctors and nurses alike.”
~
From Dr Terry Pan, Registrar, Anaesthesia, NUH
"I will definitely recommend this course to junior nurses like myself. Whenever a crisis occurs, usually the junior / new nurses are terrified and this course really makes
us more confident!”
