    The Clinical Practice Improvement Programme (CPIP) Convention and Award Ceremony was held in conjunction with the MOH Healthcare Quality Improvement Conference on 6 October 2010 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

    We celebrated the “graduation” of 153 CPIP participants who had collectively completed more than 110 Clinical Quality Improvement projects.

  • The 10th NHG Quality Day
    Writeup on The 10th NHG Quality Day
    The 10th NHG Quality Day took place on Friday, 8 October 2010. Hosted by the Institute of Mental Health, the theme this year is ‘Continuous Learning and Improvement’.

    The event witnessed the cluster’s annual recognition of NHG Exemplary Patients, followed by the presentation of the NHG Excellence in Action Awards for staff.

    The first NHG Adding Years of Healthy Life Conference was held on 23 and 24 August 2010 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. It was well-attended by more than 600 staff from NHG institutions and partners from the primary care, step-down care, community and social services, education and public sector. We were privileged to have Ms Yong Ying-I, Permanent Secretary (Health) grace the opening ceremony and share some of MOH’s current efforts and new potential areas in integrating care.

    Conflict Resolution and Mediation – is one of the 4 topics covered in the flagship “Guide to Department Management Course”. It has always been well received by the participants, who felt that the contents are beneficial for other staff as well besides the HODs and potential HODs.

    This 4-day course held at The Pines aims to equip HODs and potential HODs with the practical skills required for the effective management of clinical departments.

  • Visit from Thailand's Healthcare Organisations
    Writeup on the Visit from healthcare organizations in Thailand under Quality Improvement & Risk Management Nursing Training Program
    On 20 July, College received a group of senior leaders from 3 Universities (The Thailand Red Cross College of Nursing, Payap University and Madidol University) and the Healthcare Accreditation Institute from Thailand.

    The visit was part of the Train-of-Trainers Program organized by NHG and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). Leaders from the organizations involved in the Program were invited to visit Singapore to better understand the local healthcare system as well as Quality Improvement and Patient Safety programs in NHG for similar improvement initiatives to be implemented in their organizations after their staff are trained by NHG and NP.

  • Essentials for Clinician Teachers
    Writeup on Inaugural "Workplace Based Assessment Using Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX)" for Clinician Teachers
    The mini-CEX is a method to assess students’ or trainees’ clinical and professional skills in the ward, on ward rounds, in Emergency Department, or in outpatient clinics.

    On 29 & 30 Jun, the Institute of Medical Education (ICE) conducted 3 sessions of the Mini-CEX Workshop. Each session was originally targeted at 30 participants. However, the response was overwhelming and we had to increase the class size to 50 for each session!

    From 24th May to 28th June 2010, NHG College engaged Nanyang Technological University’s Centre for Educational Development (NTU-CED) to conduct a series of three workshops various eLearning champions and instructors. These learning sessions were organised to provide opportunities for our eLearning champions to better utilize our eLearning system to deliver training programmes by equipping themselves with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding of eLearning instructional design and conversion techniques.

    In March, College sent a study team to Queensland Health, Australia to study their work on Leadership development. The team visited their Workplace Culture and Leadership Centre (WCLC), which was established to find out what employees think about their workplaces, help identify what needs to change, and develop leaders with the capability to make the necessary changes.

    The first Healthcare Improvement Festival (HIF) 2010 ended on a high note in HortPark, Singapore. The festival was organised by the Healthcare Quality Network (HQN).

    Our keynote speaker was Mr Göran Henriks, CE of Learning and Innovation from Jönköping, a Swedish county that has been cited as having one of the best healthcare models in the world by Quality experts and forums.
