Enhancing Our eLearning Capabilities

From 24 May to 28 June 2010, NHG College engaged Nanyang Technological University’s Centre for Educational Development (NTU-CED) to conduct a series of three workshops for various eLearning champions and instructors. These learning sessions were organised to provide opportunities for our eLearning champions to better utilize the eLearning system to deliver training by equipping themselves with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding of eLearning instructional design and conversion techniques.

The first module was a two-day workshop held on 24 and 26 May, which introduced participants to eLearning software and tools commonly used in creating eLearning content. Module two took place on 25 May and guided participants on the usage of Blackboard, the eLearning Management System utilized by us. Participants were taught how to design and manage course materials and content, create quizzes and assessments and track test results on the Blackboard platform.

In the last module, participants learned about the various principles of planning and designing a curriculum from classroom-based training into blended learning with eLearning components. Throughout the course which was held over three days on 7, 21 and 28 June, participants worked in groups and had hands-on practice in applying what they had learnt to create an eLearning course, while guided by the NTU-CED instructors.

After the series of workshops, our eLearning champions expressed that they were now better equipped to harness eLearning to help deliver training to more staff in their institutions.
