Writeup on the 6th Guide to Department Management Course

This was the biggest group we ever had! Besides participants from the NHG institutions, we also had participants from NUHS, JGH and KTPH. This provides a good platform for the healthcare leaders from the various institutions to meet up and network with each other.

Participants of 6th Guide to Department Management Course

This 4-day course from 4 - 8 April 2010 was held at The Pines and aims to equip HODs and potential HODs with the practical skills required for the effective management of clinical departments. Topics covered were:

• Financial Management of Clinical Departments and Manpower Planning
• Negotiation Skills and Conflict Resolution
• Managing Clinical Quality Indicators & Outcomes
• Staff Performance Management and Talent Management

During the course, pre and post evaluations were conducted whereby the participants self-rated themselves on their adequacy to handle the issues as a Clinical Head before and after attending the course. The statistical results showed that most of the participants have a better understanding of the various topics and can handle the issues better as a Clinical Head after attending the course.
